A mother cries after losing her son ALAMGIR HOSSAIN(28) in a fire that blazed through the Garib Garib sweater factory in Gazipur some 50km (30 miles) north of the capital, Dhaka on 26 February 2010. Twenty-one garment workers were killed and some 50 were injured in the fire. The lack of safety standards and poor wiring cause several fatal factory fires every year in Bangladesh.
The bodies of unclaimed victims are readied for burial after a fire at Tazreen Fashions garment in Bangladesh and killed 124 workers on 24 November 2012. Many couldn’t find their relatives because most of the bodies were charred, like coal, or were only skeletons so they had nothing to recognize.
Garment workers stay in this kind of small room where they don’t have enough space. For four to five workers there is one common latrine and a kitchen for which they have to pay from BDT 2000 to 2500 (1USD = 80 BDT).
